Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel
Build Version/Date:
Description: Ubuntu jaunty (development branch)
Release: 9.04
Codename: jaunty
xserver-xorg-video-intel:
Installed: 2:2.6.3-0ubuntu4
Candidate: 2:2.6.3-0ubuntu4
Version table:
*** 2:2.6.3-0ubuntu4 0
500 http://archive.ubuntu.com jaunty/main Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
Environment used for testing:
Mac mini Core Duo 1.66, 2 GB RAM, Intel GMA950 (dmesg reports as 945GM), 20" DVI Cinema Display (1680x1050)
Summary:
X is painfully slow after upgrading from Intrepid to Jaunty. Performance and screen redraw on Intrepid was quick and clean.
With Visual Effects enabled switching workspaces takes a couple seconds as the choppy animation jumps from one workspace to the next. Moving windows around with Wobbly Windows enabled again results in choppy animations as the window jumps around the screen.
With Visual Effects disabled it becomes usable but is still much slower than Intrepid. Switching workspaces happens instantly however it then takes a second or two for windows to slowly paint in and draw one by one. Moving windows around is quick, however.
* CPU usage hovers around a constant 5% on both cores at all times
* CPU usage jumps to 30% to 50% on both cores when switching workspaces
* CPU usage jumps to 50% to 75% on both cores when moving windows and no other windows update while that window is being moved |
