intrepid, desktop flickers upon starting of applications

Bug Description

It does not matter which application with GUI I start, but the image on the screen flickers, showing copies of the background in random fashion 2-3 times in the lower part of the screen. It does not matter whether or not Compiz is enabled.

I'll attach some hw info.
