2008-05-11 22:51:32 mindracer description Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel Laptop: HP Compaq 6710b Graphics: Intel 965GM X3100 Ubuntu Hardy 8.04 (with Linux version 2.6.24-17-generic (buildd@crested) (gcc version 4.2.3 (Ubuntu 4.2.3-2ubuntu7)) xserver-xorg-video-intel: Installed: 2:2.2.1-1ubuntu13 Candidate: 2:2.2.1-1ubuntu13 Version table: *** 2:2.2.1-1ubuntu13 0 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com hardy-proposed/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 2:2.2.1-1ubuntu12 0 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com hardy/main Packages I've been trying for 2 days straight to get S-Video output on my new laptop on Hardy. The screen is always black. The monitor shows up as "unknown" in Screen Resolution, doesnt work with or without Clone option. Function-F4: Doesnt work in X. It works only during boot time, you see the ubuntu logo then both laptop and TV black. Xrandr 1.2 gives: Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1024 x 768, maximum 1680 x 1680 VGA disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) LVDS connected 1024x768+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 331mm x 207mm 1680x1050 60.6 + 1280x800 60.0 1280x768 60.0 1024x768 60.0* 800x600 60.3 640x480 59.9 TV connected 1024x768+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 0mm x 0mm 1024x768 30.0* 800x600 30.0 848x480 30.0 Tried different options with xorg.conf, many times had to enter recovery mode of ubuntu to reset my settings. Most suggestions were taken from googl'ing or searching ubuntu forums. Updated to the latest kernel pre-release available because I saw somewhere of a bug with 965 and 8.04LTS kernel. By accident, i put my laptop to sleep. When i booted up (with the s-video cable in), alas I have a clone of my laptop at 1024x768 on my TV. Tried extending the desktop in Screen Resolution, no luck. Now i tried doing xrandr --output TV --off, it turns off the TV! Then i try --auto at the end, and it doesnt turn it back on. Can only get it back on by going to sleep and turning the laptop back on. I spent many hours, I thought it was because I'm fairly a newbie to linux and must be a configuration issue, but I am convinced theres a bug somewhere or it is not supported out of the box. Verified other bugs similar, but not exactly like the one i'm having.
