Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

I have used Hardy since version alpha 4 or 5. Prior to update, my intel (or i810, not sure) drivers were working very fine on Gutsy (7.10). In fact, compiz worked even on live-cd and after installation as well.

Instead of intel drivers, Ubuntu is running VESA drivers. I can change drivers to "intel" from displayconfig-gtk, but not sure, if it actually changes. Anyway, glxinfo says, that I don't have direct rendering available. I also tried "i810" drivers, but that fails and falls back to VESA.

I though that may be some configuration problem, until I found one with exactly same problem at Ubuntu forums:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=4586572

Sorry for reporting this bug so late.

1)
Description: Ubuntu hardy (development branch)
Release: 8.04

2)
xserver-xorg-video-intel version: 2:2.2.1-1ubuntu12

3)
when selected "intel" from displayconfig-gtk, I expected direct rendering to work-

4)
testing of "intel" driver from displayconfig-gtk shows very low resolution image with default X backround and "keep settings"-dialog with is working. After that, resolution is normal, "intel" driver appears to be selected, but still no luck with direct rendering, and everything looks exactly like "VESA" driver is actually running.

That "HP 530" refers to HP 530 laptop with intel graphics, broadcom wireless and 32bit celeron m processor, in case this matters.

Same happens here with an Acer Extensa 5620:

I cannot load assign the i810 driver and doesn't matter what I do, it keeps setting VESA.

I have the same problem with Hardy final version on my HP 530 laptop. What to do?

Had the same symptoms on Hardy final with intel 945.

The fix was to remove these packages:

xorg-driver-fglrx

xserver-xorg-video-ati

It didn't do the trick here.
xorg-driver-fglrx wasn't installed and after removing
xserver-xorg-video-ati I still cannot select the i810 driver on Acer
Extensa 5620.

In addition, for some reason I'm getting two video cards items in the graphic tool.

But: Googleearth isn't working very great, I don't know if it belongs to the problem...
