Kind of same problem, allmost every time the pc goes idle, or sometime while playing with some littles opengl apps (like the physics simulator phun app)
here is a xorg.log with the bug...
When happening while playing with phun, the screen goes black, then gdm tries to start (mouse cursor round with little dots)
