Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

After installing the 9/18/2007 update to xserver-xorg-video-intel, desktop effects fail to start. Running compiz in a terminal gives the output:
Checking for Xgl: not present.
Blacklisted PCIID '8086:2a02' found
aborting and using fallback: /usr/bin/metacity

This is on a dell Vostro 1500. The video card is an Intel Graphics Accelerator 3100, which I believe is the 965 chipset.

I, also, am experiencing this bug after updating my Gutsy testing system.

Hello I had the same bug this morning and had fine a way to fix it.

I have open file /usr/bin/compiz with a text editor and comment the following line:

T="$T 8086:2982 8086:2992 8086:29a2 8086:2a02 8086:29a12" # intel 965 (xv video problem)

It seems it have been added to prevent intel X3100 xv problem. If you don't need video overlay you can comment this line.

Please put the following line:
SKIP_CHECKS=yes
in the file
~/.config/compiz/compiz-manager
to overwrite this check.

comment out the line, then use desktop effects as before.

To watch videos, just temporarily disable Desktop effects.

Quick and dirty fix, but it works
