[Intel Ivy Bridge Graphics][8086:0166] No HDMI video output with i915

Bug Description

CID: 201201-10339 Dell Latitude E6530

With this VGA controller: 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation Ivy Bridge Graphics Controller [8086:0166] (rev 08)
No HDMI video output on this system.
But with the HDMI cable plugged, the external monitor will wake from idle mode (orange LED -> green LED).

Also, in the system menu -> Display, no external monitor was detected, nothing happened after clicking the "Detect Displays"
HDMI device cannot be seen in the Sound Settings

However, D-Sub works fine.

Found 201208-11458 Dell Inspiron 5423 with the same controller [8086:0166]
 No HDMI audio output too, but the HDMI video output works fine on this system.

Furthermore, HDMI audio output issue could be solved by running update.

I'll verify with 201201-10339 later.

Verified with 3.5.0-36 and 3.10-saucy kernel.
None of them could get it work.

Information from Ara,
there is a possibility that the HDMI output of this system is directly wired to the nVidia video card,
consequently,no HDMI output with Intel UMA

Hello Anthony,
Yes I did, with Optimus turned off, the system will use the discrete video card.
And the HDMI video output works.

So it is why we have this hypothesis in comment #8.
