Bug Description

On my Sony Vaio YB laptop running the dev branch for Ubuntu Oneiric, I get a backlight flicker after the computer wakes from Suspend. The flickering seems to subside after 10-15 minutes, but even rebooting does not fix the flickering. (in fact, once triggered from ubuntu, the flickering will happen in the BIOS menu) I know this is not a hardware problem, because the same problem does not occur in Windows. I imagine it's a driver problem, though the flickering happens whether I use the radeon or fglrx driver.

I believe I have the same config and can report that I reproduce all of the same symptoms mentioned above.

Hey arrow-69,

Hi, thanks for reporting this issue during the development period of
Ubuntu.

I notice there's not been further comments to the bug report since the
release came out, would you mind updating us on the status of it in the
release?

Are you still able to reproduce the issue? If not, do you think the bug
report can be closed, or do you think we should continue tracking it?

Hi Bryce,

I still have the same issue with the latest updates in Oneiric. I can reproduce it although it's not entirely clear cut. If I press suspend, and wake my computer up within a few minutes, I don't have any flickering. However if it stays suspended for a longer period of time, then the flickering occurs. If that's relevant for testing/debugging, I can probably figure out what the threshold is for when the flickering occurs. ( are there multiple stages to power suspension? maybe the deeper sleep triggers the flickering?)

I can still reproduce this behavior. Just installed 64bit oneiric in my new sony vaio yb35 (same as the original user, except a little bit faster, comes with the AMD e-450 instead of the e-350).

A few minutes after installing, I left the computer installing updates and, when I came back, the backlight seems to be flickering heavily. This seems to get a little better over time and after a shutdown, but I definitely don't think it should be ignored.

lafleche.jonathan, thank you for reporting this bug to Ubuntu. Oneiric reached EOL on May 9, 2013.
See this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

To see if this is already resolved, could you please test http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ and advise to the results?

If not, please mark the Status Invalid.

If so, please mark the Status New.
