Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

I have an Acer 7552G-5430 with a Radeon HD 6650M graphics card. The screen resolution is 1600x900 however the highest resolution I can set it to is 1152x864.

I am running Kubuntu 10.04.2, but I have also tried an Ubuntu live USB 10.04.1. I have tried the open-source drivers as well as the proprietary drivers and neither of them work. In both cases, "aticonfig" reports to me that "No supported adapters detected".

Here is the relevant line from lspci:
02:00.0 VGA Compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Device 6741

Of course, I'm a little confused why that says "6741" when the specs are that this is supposed to be a "6650M". I'm hoping that is merely a device code as apposed to the model it believes this is.

I threw this issue to the forums and there appear to be others with the same issue.

Support for the Radeon HD 6000 series of cards was only added in the 2.6.38 kernel. I'm surprised that it works at all.

Please attach the output of lspci -vvnn

Does this still occur on Ubuntu 11.04 "Natty Narwhal"? What about on Ubuntu 11.10 "Oneiric Ocelot" alpha 3?

Oh my. Thank you for following up on this! I have since tried this with 11.04 (Natty) and it works. In fact, I am using it to type this response!

Marking this as invalid because (1) this graphics card was not supported in the kernel distributed with 10.04 and (2) this works in 11.04 using a kernel that supports this card.

Changed in xserver-xorg-video-ati (Ubuntu):
