Bug Description

Binary package hint: xorg

I attempted to create a default xorg.conf file by running "sudo dexconf".
This ran with no messages, did not create the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file like it is supposed to, and it returned an error code of 10.
"man dexconf" implies that the only possible return codes are 0 and 1.

Sequence of events:

$ sudo dexconf
$ echo $?
10
$ ls /etc/X11/xorg.conf
ls: cannot access /etc/X11/xorg.conf: No such file or directory
$

I also tried "sudo dexconf -o test.conf" with the same results: no file created and a return code of 10.

Oddly when I did not use sudo I did get an error message: "debconf: DbDriver "passwords" warning: could not open /var/cache/debconf/passwords.dat: Permission denied"

Hey DAP,

Hi, have you had a chance to test if this bug is still present in natty?

If it does (and if you're the original reporter), please boot into natty
and run the command:

  apport-collect <bug-number>

which will update the bug with fresh logs and tag the bug as affecting
natty. (It is best to run this right after reproducing the problem.)

Both dexconf and its man page have been removed from 11.04. I think what happened is that dexconf was intentionally disabled, because it was obsolete, but nobody bothered to update the man page in 10.10.
In any case, dexconf is no longer present on my machine.
