Bug Description

Binary package hint: kdebase-workspace

I have installed Kubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat (beta) Updated to date (RC packages I think, and KDE SC 4.5.1).

My motherboard is ASUS M2A-VM HDMI with integrated video card ATI Radeon x1250.
Using free drivers xserver-xorg-video-radeon 1:6.13.1-1ubuntu5, libgl1-mesa-dri 7.9~git20100924-0ubuntu1.

Have acceleration:
$ glxinfo | grep direct
direct rendering: Yes

But the desktop effects are disabled and from SystemSettings in "Desktop Effects" all options are disabled and I can not change any option of them.

Maybe this is related to:

More information.
I tried this workaround (Rog131 sugestion):

and I can enable the effects and compositing. But with the effects I have a bad performance with some flickers. Also with the effects enabled I have bad performance on video playback.

YAFU, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xserver-xorg-video-ati REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

Please note, given that the information from the prior release is already available, doing this on a release prior to the development one would not be helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.
