GUI doesn't appear on startup, ATI X300 not recognised?

Bug Description

After getting the Kubuntu logo and a progress bar, the graphical login screen doesn't show up.
Instead I get the following message:

Starting up...
Ubuntu edgy (development branch) <computer name> tty1

where <computer name> is the name I gave the computer during installation.

Any idea what could be wrong?

From what I think myself, the videocard ATI Radeon X300 is simply not recognised.
For further details, see below.

Is it a fresh install?
Look at the log file /var/log/Xorg.0.log to see what is wrong.

Sorry, but i don't know how to attach the files. I can't get to my linux partition from Windows, and I can't get to the GUI of Linux. Could you please tell me how I can attach the files? Thank you.

Sorry, but I think you misunderstood my question.
It's a bit more complicated.
I can't see my Linux files in Windows, so when I click browse, there's no way to find that log and conf file.
Is there a way to copy those files from Linux to Windows (because in Linux, without GUI, I can't browse and attach a file). Sorry for the inconvenience, but this would be really interesting to know. Thanks a lot.

Solved: changed the driver from "ati" to "vesa", and now it works.
