Bug Description

Binary package hint: xorg

This can be reproduced using compiz. Please enable the water effect and put in onto a rain delay of 500 (shift+F9). In about 10 seconds you should see the screen dancing around and flickering. Hard to describe. Can't make screen cast as I also have an xorg slowdown issue.

Compiz is just a method to get this bug to show up again and again. This is also happening when I am using notifications launching wine and other general use of the desktop.

Also I am hearing a clicking sound from the screen and sometimes getting the message that the screen source disappeared and just reconnected also the screen is going blank sometimes.

Would it be possible for you to capture a video of the screen by using a cellphone or digital camera on video record mode?

Ahh if you checkout my original list of uploads you have a Movie upload as the first entry.

Try that. I used my web cam sorry for the hand held amateur video.

[Problem]
Screen flickers/shimmers for half a second from side to side when using notifications, certain compiz effects, using wine, and general desktop usage. The screen connection also resets or goes black sometimes.

See this video: http://launchpadlibrarian.net/42260836/flicker.avi

This looks like it might be related to the display watermark setup. Does this patch:
http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/airlied/drm-2.6.git;a=commitdiff;h=f46c01208da1881591e3f55ca77d37f54469f8e4
help? When you apply the patch please add:
radeon.disp_priority=2 to your kernel command line.

I have seen this since moving from radeonhd to radeon (about 1 year ago).
I'm on a gentoo 32 bit, currently kernel 2.6.32, xorg 1.7.6, radeon git, UMS.
Never used compiz; I have a radeon mobility X1400.

haven't tried the display watermark stuff (don't even know if it applies to UMS).

TommyBoy, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xserver-xorg-video-ati REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

Please note, given that the information from the prior release is already available, doing this on a release prior to the development one would not be helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.
