Bug Description
Binary package hint: notify-osd
Not sure if this is actually a bug in notify-osd, Xorg, Gnome, the kernel, ????.
Libnotify popups have no text or icon. Just a few scattered pixels.
They also don't blur/fade when the mouse pointer gets near them, they simply disappear.
This didn't happen with Jaunty on this laptop, and does not happen with Karmic installed from the Beta ISO on my other machine. Only on this laptop installed with the Karmic RC iso.
I'm attaching a screenshot showing the problem.

Looking at your lspci.txt and the xorg-video-driver you've an ATI GPU in your system. What you're seeing is a bug in the xserver- xorg-video- ati when using the XAA acceleration- method. Be sure to switch to EXA (in xorg.conf). I'm reassigning this to xserver- xorg-video- ati. It's a known bug and therefore also a duplicate of LP: #429295.
