libnotify notifications appear as weird tartan patterns

Bug Description

before upgrading to 9.10, pidgin would show received messages in a libnotify popup. Now, instead of showing received messages, it pops up a random tartan pattern instead.

Running "notify-send hello" in a terminal produces the same effect.

No text is visible, just a pattern of horizontal and vertical lines of apparently random colours.

Can you please attach a screenshot and indicate whether you have notification-daemon or notify-osd installed. Thanks in advance.

Here's a screenshot showing the version number of the packages you mention, and an example corrupted notification.

Chris, can you please add the output of lspci to the bug-report or tell us what driver and GPU you have in your machine? This looks like a driver bug.

Hi Mirco. I could provide the details you're asking for, but the bug
doesn't happen on my machine so I don't see how it would help. Would you
prefer that I run 'lspci' on the same machine I took the screenshot on?

I don't have physical access to it, and don't know anything about what
components are in it. If there are some commands you would like to see the
output of, I can provide that.

*sigh* I was expecting this. This is a bug in the xorg-video driver for
ATI. It's not an issue of notify-osd. notify-osd just runs fine, either
composited or non-composited, under intel and nvidia. I'll reassign this
to the correct package.

Best regards ...
