Bug Description

The Dapper Drake beta2 live cd does not work correctly on a Dell C600 laptop. With the framebuffer on it boots but the screen is cut in half horizontally and the bottom section duplicates whats on top. This goes on until X is started and then the same thing happens in the console except that the screen is divided vertically. With debian-installer/framebuffer=off set everything works great until X is started and then the screen goes completely white.

Can you boot in Safe Graphics Mode(?) ? Then please attach /var/log/Xorg.0.log. If you by any means can get this log from the failed attempts also, that would be great.

Can you please try the following

1. Select the resolution you expect by pressing the appropiate Fn key when you boot the live CD
2. The display will probably be broken.
3. Got a virtual console (ctrl-alt-F1)
4. Get your network up
5. sudo apt-get update
6. sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg
7. sudo dpkg-reconfigure -fnoninteractive xserver-xorg
8. kill your X process (ps -efl |grep X and then use sudo kill...)

That should restart X with the latest xserver-xorg package. If it didn't work can you please send /etc/X11/xorg.conf and /var/log/Xorg.0.log

Any easier way it to test this is with the daily live CD. Similar bugs for that card have been fixed.
