[dapper-flight 5]X hangs after ending session

Bug Description

I have a ATI Radeon Mobility M300 (M22) 5460 (PCIE). While the system comes up just fine my X will hang with a garbled screen if I quit my KDE session. There is no way to get the screen back, killing X from ssh session does not work, only a reboot will fix the problem.

Attached is a Xorg.log file.

I see the following in my dmesg as last entry:

[drm] Loading R300 Microcode

Don't know if this helps.

The machine is an IBM Thinkpad T43 by the way.

After a kill -9 the X process remains in the running state, but with the name in [] brackets:

5125 ? Rs 7:07 [Xorg]
