Bug Description

I'm using Kubuntu Intrepid with kubuntu-experimental PPA enabled (all updates up to date).

Other sources, added by hand:
...
## Medibuntu - Ubuntu 8.10 "intrepid ibex"
## Please report any bug on https://bugs.launchpad.net/medibuntu/
deb http://packages.medibuntu.org/ intrepid free non-free
deb-src http://packages.medibuntu.org/ intrepid free non-free

## KDE 2.4.x
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-members-kde4/ubuntu intrepid main
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-experimental/ubuntu intrepid main

## DigiKam and KIPI plugins for KDE 4 <<< THESE WERE ADDED RECENTLY; LOCKS WERE THERE BEFORE THEM TOO

deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/digikam-experimental/ubuntu intrepid main
...

I'm at loss in defining "related package" or whatever category for this bug...

I often have my input locked (freeze). It has the following sympthoms:
- keybord doesn't respond (Ctrl+Alt+Backspace, Ctrl+Alt+F1..F12, all doesn't work as well. Even "Numlock" and such indicators don't react).
- mouse buttons don't work. but its cursor moves in most cases;

So, I can only hard-reset my PC after the lock had happen...

I'm going to attach xorg.log and .xsession-errors here. Please let me know which other info do you need.

Note: Video system: ATI X1600XT + default "radeon" driver with only one options added: AccelMethod: EXA.

UPD: still happens after upgrate to KDE 4.2;

Note: recently tried (Alt+SysRq)+(R, E, I, S, U, B) combo, once gotten another "freeze". Doesn't help as well.

It's very frustrating that I can't even safely logout or reboot so many time (1, 2 and even more per day)...

Can anyone at least advice to which project this is relating more likely? This bug is still in "New" status.. Probably because it's not "focused" to specific people (under specific project)...

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have classified this bug as a bug in xorg.

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the appropriate application's "Help -> Report a Problem" menu or using 'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

Does not freezes anymore in Karmic. At least not so often to notice ;-)

Still would like to know why the "Magic combo" may become [(Alt+SysRq)+(R, E, I, S, U, B)] not working..
Should I enable it somewhere first? Just wondering how to safely reboot PC when(if) the system freezes again.. :-(

Symptoms are caused by gpu hang (your graphics card is running in a forever loop). Same time driver is waiting for signal from the card that operations have done. So result is that the driver gets blocked which blocks most of others parts of kernel too.
Only solution to aoid this situation is to use the newer KMS driver which has detection system for GPU hang.

Thanks for the explaining. I couldn't believe it was video driver, before, cause the mouse cursor could move (yet, couldn't click anything and no hover effects were there). Now it at least looks possible. ;-)
