I'm trying 8.10 beta on my new laptop.
After booting, I am presented with a white screen. Nothing in it. Just white. Not even the mouse pointer.
I killed kdm and launched startx myself, with the same result.
I'm sorry if I don't give you more info, but I'm no expert and this is the first time I file a bug...
I hope this helps.
I can do more tests if you have suggestions of course.
Thanks for your help,
Andrea. |

I'm sorry if I don't give you more info, but I'm no expert and this is the first time I file a bug...
I could reproduce the same effect on 8.04 (kubuntu) following this procedure:
1) normal boot
2) install binary driver with automatic procedure
3) setup desktop effect
4) install 2.6.27-rc3
5) reboot with the new kernel
My (naive) guess is that something goes wrong when the desktop is configured to use 3d acceleration and the corresponding driver is not found.
I hope this helps.
I can do more tests if you have suggestions of course.
Thanks for your help,

I'm trying 8.10 beta on my new laptop. Not the installation, just the boot from cd.
After booting, I am presented with a white screen. Nothing in it. Just white. Not even the mouse pointer.

I'm sorry if I don't give you more info, but I'm no expert and this is the first time I file a bug...
I could reproduce the same effect on 8.04 (kubuntu) following this procedure:
1) normal boot
2) install binary driver with automatic procedure
3) setup desktop effect (works fine)
4) install 2.6.27-rc3
5) reboot with the new kernel
My (naive) guess is that something goes wrong when the desktop is configured to use 3d acceleration and the corresponding driver is not found.
I hope this helps.
