graphical glitches when playing video

Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-driver-ati

I am running a Dell Latitude C640 with a Radeon 7500. It has always worked perfectly with every Ubuntu release, but in the latest 810 alpha, I see multiple graphical issues. I am not using the desktop effects. The most obvious thing is garbled white pixels in youtube videos. I also experience major distortion of large parts of the screen when taking screenshots, and the visualizations in VLC 0.9.2 are garbled.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please attach your X server configuration file (/etc/X11/xorg.conf) and X server log file (/var/log/Xorg.0.log) to the bug report as individual uncompressed file attachments using the "Attachment:" box below. Could you please also try to run without any /etc/X11/xorg.conf and let Xorg autodetect your display and video card? Please also attach the /var/log/Xorg.0.log from this attempt. Thanks in advance.

I'd hate to jinx it, but I think the problem may have been with my xconf! Everything seems to be working fine now without it.

Yeah, I spoke to soon, sorry everyone. I don't seem to have that same corruption in screenshots as I reported before, but the other issues persist.

As far as I can tell, yes. Those two glitches I demonstrated are the
only two I've experienced so far. Regular videos in totem seem fine,
just not low quality flvs and the vlc visualization system.
