gnome-display-properties: ATI Radeon 1650, Rotate Left/Right shuts off Display

Bug Description
I'm Using Hardy (8.04 Beta).
I have a display with ATI Radeon 1650 chipset, not using the fglrx driver but
the non-restricted driver (== default after installation)
When I open the gnome-display-
and switch to __Rotate Left__ or __Right__ The Server becomes Dark. Furthermore the settings are stored
so Killing the xserver and re-login does not help - I need do delete my configuration data.
Sone info from my xorg logfile:
