[Hardy] Closing Laptop lid corrupts screen

On my ThinkPad T60 with an ATI X1400 after I close and open my laptop lip, the screen is completely corrupted. All is seen is blinking multi-color blocks. Some blocks move when I move the mouse.

The screen can be restored if I switch to a Virtual Terminal and back (Ctrl+Alt+F1, Ctrl+Alt+F7).

In my Power Management Preferences, "When laptop lid is closed" is set to "Do nothing".

I just noticed the beeps are by design and also occur with fglrx. Ignore the beep part of the title and description.

I have a Dell Inspiron E1705/9400 with an ATI x1400 and Kubuntu Hardy. When I close the lid the screen turns off as expected, when I open the lid the screen's backlight turns back on, but the image stays black.

The only way out is alt+sysrq+b (or turning off the comp...)

I forgot to mention I'm using the privative drivers (fglrx) from the ATI website.

Leonardo, does it work when you use the radeon (non-restricted, xserver-xorg-driver-ati) driver?

I don't know how to make that driver work with my video card.

I tried this one instead:

$ fglrxinfo
display: :0.0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: Mesa project: www.mesa3d.org
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa GLX Indirect
OpenGL version string: 1.4 (2.1 Mesa 7.0.3-rc2)

This does allow me to close the lid, but I get no 2D or 3D acceleration.

Hi, I have had this problem with Hardy's stock xserver-xorg-video-ati driver running on Hardy-amd64 on a Thinkpad T60.

Tormod's driver package fixed it, thankyou!

Why are we not seeing the fix applied to the main Ubuntu repositories?

The newer version is now released in Intrepid. Maybe the fix can be backported to the Hardy version through an SRU (stable release update).

I have been checking this on a Thinkpad T42p and I did not see any screen corruption.
 So it looks fixed to me.
