I have collected data with 'ubuntu-bug xorg' as requested by penalvch.
Should I run the same command - or someting else - AFTER an unsuccesful resume as well?

I've set this bug report to 'Invalid', because I realize that I should create the bug report, when my machine is just resumed from suspend. I will create a new bug report with the right data.

Morten, you shouldn't create another report at this time. Instead, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, please just make a comment to this.

Thank you for your understanding.

I have now installed the latest "64-bit Mac (AMD64) desktop image" from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ so I am now running "Ubuntu 14.04 LTS".
Unfortunately the problem has not been solved.
After suspend and resume the display is still broken.

I've re-installed the entire system: OSX, bootcamp, Ubuntu 14.04 and rEFInd. The problem still persists. I've re-submitted the bug from the new setup: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1310318
