I am experiencing this in Xubuntu 14.04 too. I have substituted lighdm with xdm. What information I can provide to help fixing this?

I'm Experiencing something similar to this in 14.10. Instead of sometimes, every time I wake my laptop from sleep, my entire x server crashes and cannot be restarted. I cannot log in, and the GUI is unrecoverable without a restart.
