Bug Description

After upgrade I have no menu bar at the top and the side bar won't come out.
Right click gives the usual menu and I can bring up All Settings, but I change anything in the screens menu.
The two keyboard shortcuts I know still work, ctrl-alt L and Terminal, but the windows key doesn't.

The top bar is on the screen until I log in. I tried logging in as guest, no change

Per some other instructions I opened Terminal and entered a reset on something, sorry, I don't recall what the command was but it was an answer to a missing Home bar.

The only reason I decided to upgrade was to try to get dual-monitor functionality back after I lost it in the last upgrade.

Computer is Acer Aspire one netbook, 2 gig ram, dual boot with Windows 7 x64

Hi!

I convert this bug to a question as it is more of a support case and this way you'll get it answered faster.

I have to boot it up to be sure, but I think it is 12.10.
Previous comments show it may be a lack of support for my graphics chipset. Solutions required me to access the terminal, which I can do, but I don't know how to manipulate the fix.

The machine is a dual-boot with windows 7, all I want is a plug-and-play linux OS to use as an alternative to windows. It doesn't make sense to me to have an OS that becomes unusable after an update

I don't know what version I am running , I got a message a bunch of times asking me to update so I did. all I am getting back are more questions that I don't know the answers to. and other people's questions, I am very confused how this help works, I do understand clicking links to fix things if there is one, that would very much help me, my problem could be the result of malware being installed during the update, just a guess on that.
