i can't understand why you close this bug.. when tons and tons of people confirmed a problem of freeze with the open drivers and ATI cards, also in Hardy (personally I can only confirm it in 7.10).
the most recent would be comment #146, up-to-date as of 2008-02-21, on hardy.
and of course who cares about the problem on 7.10. but i expected that. i was at least hoping it would get some developer attention for hardy.
yes, this bug was hijacked by people having problem with proprietary ATI drivers, which have nothing to do with the problem with the open driver. but there is a problem with the open driver, at least in 7.10 (and it was fine in 7.04).
nevermind.
