Bug Description

Hi..
I'v ATIx700 grafikcard, I couldn't get the ATI nor the vesa driver to work with it. I couldn't install it from the desktop cd of that reason, so I upgradet from 6.10 to fiesty and used the fglrx driver that I had installed befor for testing and that doesn't work very wel but I can use X. :P

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Could you please add your '/etc/X11/xorg.conf' file and your '/var/log/Xorg.0.log' file as attachments to your bug report? Thanks in advance.

The only diferense between "Xorg.conf.Original" and "xorg.con" is that I'v changed the driver to fgrlx istead of ati. I'v ungraded som packages now where I think there were ati driver packages in. I'll reboot and tell if it works or not.

Hi again. I have upgraded the packages and tested to change the "fglrx" back to "ati". This happend: when I restarted X I could hear that GDM started and if I typed any user name and password that was wrong I could hear the wrong password sound. in other word the X started but I couldn't be able to se what was happening (I couldn't see anything).

with edgy the ati-driver that folowed with ubuntu worked beter than fglrx in all ways.

hope this will help.

Can you please attach Xorg.0.log from using the "ati" driver? You'll find it as Xorg.0.log.old after X has restarted.

This could be a duplicate of bug #90571. Can you please try the workarounds from that bug report?

It seems like it could be the same problem. I tried the changes he had made but it didn't help me. I tried with only some options and that didn't work either. I have attached the Xorg.0.log that I got when I used the ati driver.

Was this Xorg.log.0 from using the settings in the other bug, or from the original xorg.conf above? In general, please post the corresponding Xorg.0.log and xorg.conf files in pairs.

It's from the original xorg.conf file. I'l attache it here.

You maybe need to specify some other sync ranges than in bug #90571, since your screen is different than his.

I'll mark this as a duplicate, since the origin of the problem probably is the same.

The xorg.conf at http://launchpadlibrarian.net/7711144/xorg.conf.original-0 and attached to this bug is problematic for the following reason:
The following option is invalid: + HorizSync 28-96
