Bug Description

I downloaded the 22.04.4 iso and did a fresh install on an AMD Athlon 200GE using built-in graphics.
(Radeon™ Vega 3 Graphics)

Firefox and Chromium browsers had their windows corrupted to the point where they were unreadable.

I think this is an xorg bug, because when I installed Wayland and logged in with a Wayland session, the browsers displayed correctly.

Same behaviour with an Athlon 220GE.

KDE or Ubuntu's Gnome desktop made no difference - it seemed to be xorg vs Wayland that was the critical difference.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Libera.chat.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/2055351/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.

Similar, yes. But we can't treat them as the same bug when one was declared fixed in Firefox in September 2023, and the other declared a problem in Firefox in February 2024.

It is similar but not identical.

I just updated Snap, Firefox, and Chromium, and, currently, Firefox with hardware acceleration works fine using wayland, but not X11. Firefox without hardware acceleration works on either.

I am attaching a screenshot of unaccelerated Firefox beside (corrupted) accelerated Chromium on X11.

I will do another apport-collect 2055351 as the versions have changed.

Similar hardware:

R7 240 graphics card (previous generation graphics cores) on Athlon 200GE: everything works fine on X11

Plugged SSD from Athlon install into 5600G (Vega 6 graphics instead of Vega 3): everything works fine on X11.

So it seems to be something weird about Vega 3 graphics in relation to amdgpu & xserver-xorg-video-amdgpu.

I don't speak Git, but I am happy to download, compile, and test anything you would like me to if you don't have access to matching hardware.
