Hello Загорія,
Thank you for taking time to report this bug and help making Ubuntu better.

In order to forward this bug upstream, it needs some more information be attached to this report, to do so, please open your terminal and run the following commands:

xmodmap -pp >~/xmodmap.log
xinput --list-props "SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad" >~/xinput-list-props.log
xev > ~/xev.log
then attach the three files, "xmodmap.log", "xinput-list-props.log" and "xev.log", from your home directory to your reply on this email.

* The 'xev > ~/xev.log' command will open you a window with a smaller square inside, please keep your cursor inside that square and test all problematic features(ie. drag-n-drop, right and left clicks, etc), then close the window to save the log.

Thanks.

Hi!

I have a Asus Eee PC 901 as well and have noticed this bug. I actually had it on natty as well when trying a 3.0 linux kernel, going back to 2.6.39 made the touchpad work as expected again.

I have attached the requested log files log files for both running 3.0 and 2.6.39.
Only one small difference, its not actually a real synaptics touchpad, its elantech, xinput command was:
xinput --list-props "ETPS/2 Elantech Touchpad"

One xev for one three-fingers touch and one for multiple attempts.

khtaam, do you have very short drag-n-drop timeout also?

yes, text selection with the touchpad is almost impossible with the
3.0 kernel, works perfectly in 2.6.39. using the exact same settings
for xorg and in synclient.

Can this have something to do with utouch/grail?

I found the line:
(II) ETPS/2 Elantech Touchpad: failed to open grail, no gesture support
when running 2.6.39 liquorix kernel.
The line is not there when running stock 3.0 kernel, so maybe grail is taking over the touchpad and it does not have the full support?

I found a workaround. I installed the debian package for synaptics which does not have some of the patches added.
Now I can tap and drag to select text, three finger for middle mouse button.

This is probably not the right way to do it, but it seems that this touchpad is not compatible with the patches added in ubuntu right now. Maybe there is an option to disable the multitouch functions, but I could not find it.

I talked to cnd in #ubuntu-touch, and apparently this is by design because unity will use three-finger click for something.

Hello all,
Thank you for uploading the requested files. It seems to be a kernel's bug more than a synaptics, thus it's move to linux, and kernel's team will handle it.

Please open your terminal(Ctrl+Alt+T), then enter:
xinput test "ETPS/2 Elantech Touchpad" > ~/Desktop/xinput-test.txt
While running that command please consider testing all problematic features.
After that, please attach the file 'xinput-test.txt' from your Desktop to this report/email.
