Bug Description

On Ubuntu Netbook (Maverick) installed on a Lenovo S10, horizontal scrolling does not work from the touchpad, even if it is enabled in the Mouse settings, under the Touchpad tab. This is a regression from previous versions, in which it worked perfectly.

Is the other laptop a lenovo S10 as well? Can you please try to switch on your laptop to the desktop session in GDM and confirm it's working there?

No, the other latptop is a Toshiba Satellite.

I just booted up my Lenovo on the desktop session, and it also doesn't work there. I guess it is not Unity's fault after all…

I am changing the bug's description.

Should I send any further debug information? Since the package has
changed, maybe it needs another report file?

Hi Daniel,
Thanks for reporting this bug and making Ubuntu a better place. I wish you could provide us with some more information to work on this bug further.

1. What is you touchpad model?
2. Please tell the ubuntu and xserver-xorg-input-synaptics version in which you touchpad works correctly.
3. Also a xev log will help confirming the bug.

Please refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingTouchpadDetection for help regarding this..

The touchpad model is SynPS/2 Synaptics Touchpad, from xinput --list.

It works correctly on every version of Netbook Remix up to Karmic.

How do I do that?

I did as the page suggested on the section "In case at least one of
Touchpad features works but does not work correctly and as expected".
Here are the attached log files.

Open your terminal and type
$ xev > xev.log

A windows will pop up that will log all entries to xev.log in your home
directory. Now point your mouse pointer in that window and press a keyboard
key (say a). Now without doing anything else, try to scroll horizontally a
few times. Having unable to do so, press 'a' again and then exit using
Ctrl-x. Now upload the xev.log to launchpad.

Done. Ctrl+x didn't work so I exited using Alt+F4 instead.

Oh, my mistake
use Ctrl-z in future.
Though Alt-F4 solved the purpose here.

You have to do that again.
Press 'a'
Try to do horizontal scrolling and use the bottom portion only. Show that your horizontal scroll doesn't work.
Press 'a'

Then press Ctrl-Z

Note:: not to create any noise in the log file, by moving your pointer unnecessarily in the window.

Sure. I did it more cleanly this time. But Ctrl+z didn't work either.
I exited qith Alt+F4 instead.

Hey Daniel,

Hi, have you had a chance to test if this bug is still present in natty?

If it does (and if you're the original reporter), please boot into natty
and run the command:

  apport-collect <bug-number>

which will update the bug with fresh logs and tag the bug as affecting
natty. (It is best to run this right after reproducing the problem.)

Daniel Carrasco Guariento, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xserver-xorg-input-synaptics REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

Please note, given that the information from the prior release is already available, doing this on a release prior to the development one would not be helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.
