Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics

(I'm not sure this is a synaptic bug, sorry if I'm wrong)

My laptop have 2 rows of 3 click buttons. Better than a long explanation, here is a picture: http://hpfansite.com/images/2008/12/8730w-touchpad.jpg

It used to work well on Karmic and Lucid, but on Maverick (up to date and also with the last daily-live) the middle button of each row now perform a left click instead of a middle click (trust me, this is a huge regression, especially when browsing the Web and when copy/pasting with a middle clik).

I tried xev and it returns that both left and middle buttons send the "button 1" signal. Of course, the middle button send "button 2" on Lucid.
I plugged a mouse and it's middle click worked as expected. So this seems to be specific to build-in buttons.

This is an important bug for me as an Ubuntu enthusiast because all my class mates (~200 students) have the same computer...

It looks like the ClickPad support is to blame... it treats the middle button as a left or a right, depending on where your finger is.

it seems that only few of us have three buttons on out laptops...
one solution is tapping in upper-right corner of your touchpad or tapping left+right button together...

Both the upper and lower row middle buttons behave as left button.
