Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubuntu-docs

Release joe@joe-laptop:~$ lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu 9.10
Release: 9.10

Migrated from 9.04 to 9.10 on a Lenovo SL500 with dual boot to XPP.

The touch pad "Synatpcis PS/2 Port Touch Pad" does not respond. Installing gpointing-device-settings 1.3.1-2 does not correct problem. Running "xinput list" does not show any touch pad device.

As for sound "Conexant High Definition Smart Audio 221" . When running hardware tests the output device shows as "Dummy Stereo."

I have installed Ubuntu Karmic Koala on two computer systems. I love it. BUT, I cannot get any sound out of it. I have toyed with every sound setting I can find on both machines and I get nothing. I really want this to work. My output devices show as "dummy stereo" just like this person. Please show me how to correct this problem. Please let it be simple without having to jump through hoops and downloading all kinds of crazy software. I am not so sure I can find my way back to this forum. So, if you have an answer for me, I would appreciate an email at <email address hidden>. Thank you very, very much! David

David Hickman, please read this:
If you still have problems after following that guide please ask a question at or if you are sure that you are experiencing a bug, please open a separate one.

Joe Mcverry, your sound problems are not related to the touchpad problems, so they should be separate issues. Please do the same as David :)

I'll change the title of this issue so we can focus on the touchpad problem...

Hi Joe,

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. If you could test the current Ubuntu stable release(maverick ubuntu 10.10), this would help us a lot.
