Given that \vish has stated, on #ubuntu-bugs, that it happens with her/him, marking as Confirmed, Medium, I am guessing this has something to do with X, but unsure on where to blame it. (xserver-xorg-input-(udev|mouse), perhaps).

Confirming this on 10.10. However, it seems there is a bigger problem. Just moving the mouse and clicking on any keys *will* lag the cursor, even if you didn't highlight the text.

affects: ubuntu → xserver-xorg-input-evdev (Ubuntu)
summary: - Mouse lags while copying highlighted text.
+ Mouse lags while moving it and clicking any keys

atempuser, I have an amd64 bit system and the problem doesn't occure. However, in a random basis system does not respond to mouse clicks. Maybe this bug (i reported it today) has to do with the bug you reported. Does this happen to you?

This happens on an AMD64 system with an nvidia (using nouveau drivers) card (GTX275). Apport-collect data follows.

I confirm this bug (mouse lags for half a second whenever a key is pressed on the keyboard) on Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick.

The hardware is 1000HE with Elantech touchpad; full hardware report attached.

Found the cause. The problem is caused by syndaemon running in background. Running
"killall syndaemon" in the terminal restores normal mouse behavior. Unchecking "disable while typing" option in Mouse settings, apparently, does not shut down syndaemon nor prevent it from starting on the next reboot.

Would be nice if people knew that touchpad != mouse. This is basically not a bug but a feature.

atempuser, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xserver-xorg-input-synaptics REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

Please note, given that the information from the prior release is already available, doing this on a release prior to the development one would not be helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.

This is a mass change of bugs. Bugs assigned to me that haven't been updated in the last 3 years are closed as WONTFIX, because, well, let's at least be honest about it.

Please do not re-open unless you have a really good reason to do so (e.g. you're fixing it yourself). If it hasn't been fixed in the last 3 years, it probably won't be fixed anytime soon either. Sorry.
