Bug Description

This is a Canonical-sponsored Tecra M2 (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestingTeam/ToshibaTecraM2). Current test for Flight 3 results in a very slow mouse pointer with the ALPS dual point touchpad. This machine is on Nvidia G-Force FX using nv driver.

This is caused by the synaptics input driver having default settings for Synaptics touchpads only. If an Alps touchpad is detected during configuration of X, then different settings should be used.

I confirm, I have this problem with Alps touchpad on my Vaio in dapper and breezy (hoary was working better).

ALPS touchpad still *unusable* in Kubuntu dapper flight5. VERY VERY slow, and no scrollbar functionality.

I've been patching this to work since Hoary, and publishing the recipe (http://rtr.ca/dell_i9300). Could we finally please get a working touchpad into Dapper ?
