performing a 3-finger drag on the apple trackpad causes all further movement input to be ignored

One and two finger actions work fine, but the moment a third finger is introduced, all movement ceases. The click buttons still work, but all movement on the trackpad is ignored. You can still use another mouse to move the cursor around. This issue reproduces in Unity as well as KDE.
