Marco Ceresa, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xserver-xorg-input-synaptics REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

Please note, given that the information from the prior release is already available, doing this on a release prior to the development one would not be helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.

I installed the recent Linux Mint and the recent Xubuntu 13.10, I'm running 3.11.0-15-generic on a netbook and this problem still exists!

I have no experience with compiling a new Kernel or anything like that.

I can temporarily fix the problem with the commands
sudo modprobe -r psmouse
sudo modprobe psmouse

or

sudo modprobe -r psmouse
sudo modprobe psmouse proto=imps

both fixes the touchpad for a while (even though the scroll function on the side of the touchpad never works) but then it happens again. The mouse still moves but no clicks are recognized.

If I remove the module and use an external mouse, the mouse is reliable.

Yuri Astrakhan, it would help immensely if you filed a new report via a terminal:
ubuntu-bug xorg

Please ensure you have xdiagnose installed, and that you click the Yes button for attaching additional debugging information.

Please feel free to subscribe me to it.

OTH, the workaround from http://askubuntu.com/a/262364/175109 seems to work, but I can't enable two-finger-scroll nor touch-to-click.
