Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-mouse

The mouse window focus and left/right/other clicking and mouse wheel operations cease to work.

The mouse pointer still exists and changes shape appropriately for whatever one mouses over.

Keyboard shortcuts still work.

Only known way to get out of situation so far, is to press 'ctrl-alt-del', followed by arrowing to "logout" and pressing [enter].

I am unable to reproduce at will.

mjoyner@mjoyner-desktop-x64b:~$ lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu 8.10
Release: 8.10

I see the same issue on my laptop. I use two 20" external LCDs and only see the problem with mouse input falling out sometimes (randomly) when I have the dualview running.

If I only run on the LCD on the laptop, I do not trigger this behavior.

I use the proprietary nvidia driver and a custom xorg.conf (attached) which gets my Dell D620 to use two external LCDs as desktop.

I have the same symtoms. Mouse click sometimes stops working. Alot of ALT+TAB sometimes gives it back. But usually i need to restart X server.

I also checked with xev and click are not seen in the output.

This problem started after upgrade to ubuntu 8.10.

I have 2 nvidia 7300 cards with 4 monitors (different sizes) using xinerama.
Mouse is on usb
Keyboard is a logitech internet navigator keyboard which has a mousewheel and also registers itself a mouse hid device.

Same issue for me: mouse cursor does move, but no click nor focus under some unknown circumstances. I also use two displays with xinerama connected to the same video card. Before upgrading to 8.10 I was using 7.10 and 8.04 without any issue.

This looks/sounds a lot like Bug #296167, which a lot of people have been complaining about as well.

Marked as duplicate of Bug #296167, since that bug has a longer discussion.
