Trackpad interfering with trackpoint even when disabled

Bug Description

I am running Ubuntu 20.04 on a new ThinkPad P14s AMD. I noticed that my trackpoint was very laggy and choppy.

After a while I realized that the trackpoint is smooth as long as I am not touching the trackpad (very difficult). Even with the trackpad disabled in GNOME and the BIOS (which seems to only affect Windows) the interference continues. Using the command "libinput debug-events" I can see "POINTER_MOTION" events being registered despite the trackpad being off. This seems to be what is causing the trackpoint lag.

Disabling the trackpad in the BIOS does not help. I have the same behaviour on a 21.04 live USB session.
