Synaptics touchpad not recognized

The touchpad refuses to work even in Ubuntu Live boot, but it is operational in Windows 10.

In previous releases, I've been able to add "i8042.reset" to the grub configuration to make the touchpad work sporadically, but that fails completely now. The touchpad does not show up in xinput or the synaptics driver.
