Bug Description

Binary package hint: xorg

I'm using a touchscreen laptop (fujitsu T4410). Touchscreen works fine, but when I plug an (non-touchscreen) external monitor in and go dual-head, the touch functionality 'stretches' across the multiple screens. e.g. I have the external monitor above the laptop monitor. When I touch the bottom of the touchscreen, the touch is (almost) correct. When I touch the top of the touchscreen, the pointer goes to the top of the external monitor. Same situation in the vertical dimension.

What should happen is that touch events only occur on the touchscreen monitor

This may be tricky, as the touch driver (for this particular machine) is wacom, so the machine probably sees the touch device as a wacom pen tablet.

Same thing with touchscreen from different brand on a packard bell butterfly touch.

My screens are not on top of each other, but besides one another. On the touchscreen i'd like to navigate through a PDF, while writing on a text file on the regular screen. Doesn't work, since the coordinates of the touchscreen seem to be spread relatively over the whole xscreen (both physical screens)...

This seems to be a feature request I guess...
But an important feature I'd say, since theres no use of a single touchscreen in a dual head environment with the present setting.

affects: xorg (Ubuntu) → xserver-xorg-input-evdev (Ubuntu)

Hey vik,

Hi, have you had a chance to test if this bug is still present in natty?

If it does (and if you're the original reporter), please boot into natty
and run the command:

  apport-collect <bug-number>

which will update the bug with fresh logs and tag the bug as affecting
natty. (It is best to run this right after reproducing the problem.)

This can be adjusted by modifying the coordinates transformation matrix for the touchscreen using xinput. However, other problems arise after doing that.
See this bug for more details:

There are at least three other bugs about this problem registered in launchpad too, but I don't have their numbers right now. However, they've been reported against xorg, without specifying the evdev package.

vik, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xserver-xorg-input-evdev REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

Please note, given that the information from the prior release is already available, doing this on a release prior to the development one would not be helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.

Bug is reproducable on current ubuntu development release!
It is also present on Kubuntu 13.10, which is what I work with at the moment.

I think this bug should get some priority, since touchscreens are pretty common these days. The current state just makes the touchscreen of my laptop useless, as soon as I attach an external screen an switch to dualhead...

I have recently installed 'normal' ubuntu 13.10 on a Fujitsu T5010 tablet (which is almost identical to the T4410 I initially reported this bug on). The touchscreen and stylus inputs work as they should even with an external display connected. Which is good news for me. I might try this on a T4410 soon. But from my perspective this bug has been fixed; not certain if kubuntu uses a different driver or configuration?
