Bug Description

Using an azerty keyboard, I want to assign "Switch to Desktop 2" to Meta+é ("é" is located on the "2" key without shift).

I do this in System settings , Global Keyboard Shortcuts, KDE component = KWin, then select "Switch to Desktop 2" and type Meta+é in Custom. But, when I press Meta+é (actually Windows key + é), Meta+É is displayed, and the shortcut does not work.
If I change ~/.kde/share/config/kglobalshortcutsrc to replace Meta+É to Meta+é, it does not work either.

Using Kubuntu 9.04

I can confirm this problem, similar for me (with e.g. Meta-Shift-% for moving active window to fifth virtual desktop): in the "learning" mode of the global shortcut setting for that action it first shows correctly "Meta-Shift" but with pressing the 5/% the Shift disappears and only the wrong never being reachable Meta-% stays there.

Currently in Jaunty with using KDE 4.3 from PPA but already before with "official" KDE 4.2. But for the 4.2 in Jaunty not from the very beginning on as I first observed it later with enlarging my number of virtual desktops from 4 to 5. The 1-4 were defined and shown initially correctly after having installed a fresh Jaunty.

This was filed against the wrong driver package. -keyboard is no longer maintained; keyboards are managed via the -evdev driver now. But canonical no longer maintains kubuntu so an SRU for fixing this (if one could be developed) is not going to be done.
