please clarify: the problem is with an installed ubuntu system or with the livecd? is this the 8.10 ubuntu 32 bit livecd?

for me, (im owner of e200) its problem with both: livecd and system. i8402.nopnp and i8402.dumbkbd doesnt work - ubuntu doesnt recognize the command. i dont get the notice:

does it have any connection with issue?

and the parameters were mis-typed: it's i8042, not i8402 ...
can you please confirm this workaround?

Really great thanks, Dimitrios.

Yes, it was mis-typed. Weird, that everywhere on the net you can find wrong answers for that problem.

So, to sum up, keyboard issue was resolved in my case by simply typing "i8042.nopnp=1 i8042.dumbkbd=1" in GRUB's boot options.

IT IS NOT "i8402". thats typo!!

CORRECT ONE IS "i8042".

Problem resolved.

changed description accordingly
however, I'm still a bit confused about what exactly the problem was:
was only the keyboard not functioning, or did the graphical interface fail to load completely?
also, could you please tell me which version of Ubuntu you had this issue with? Have you tried Intrepid (8.10)?

Few weeks ago i tried to install older versions (Feisty Fawn or so).

In those versions it was a problem with both: keyboard not responding and GUI not loading. But running live CD was ok, only keyboard problem was present.

Then, when i posted my message, i was trying Intrepid (8.10). Fortunately, the GUI problem wasn't present. Seems, that it's fixed. I had only a keyboard problem. Tried to do that 'i8402' with no result, as i said, because of mis-typing. And than, you gave me a hint, voila, everything works.

Maybe guy, that created this topic had problems with graphics, and that's why you are confused?
