Bug Description

The mouse is a Logitech LX3. It is detected and works. The only thing wrong is that the tilt wheel doesn't work at all. It should be used for horizontal scrolling but doesn't do anything.

hi tomd.

I'm not sure if this is really a bug. But if it is, it can be fixed by switching the Mouse driver to evdev.
This should be as simple as replacing your current mouse section in /etc/X11/xorg.conf with:

Section "InputDevice"
        Identifier "Configured Mouse"
        Driver "evdev"
Option "Name" "Logitech USB-PS/2 Optical Mouse"
        Option "SendCoreEvents" "true"
        Option "Device" "/dev/input/by-id/usb-Logitech_USB-PS.2_Optical_Mouse-event-mouse"
EndSection

Hint: I got a Logitech LX3 Mouse - so you probably don't need to change the "Device" section. :)
good luck

The above didn't work at least not in firefox or openoffice. I have 2 files btw /dev/input/by-id/usb-Logitech_USB-PS.2_Optical_Mouse-event-mouse and /dev/input/by-id/usb-Logitech_USB-PS.2_Optical_Mouse-mouse
I did restart and I'm sure I edited the xorg.conf right, would I have to enable side scrolling in Ubuntu somehow? Thanks for your help. Attached xorg.conf

Hi tdziedz2,

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? (ISOs are available from cdimage.ubuntu.com)

If it remains an issue, could you also attach a new /var/log/Xorg.0.log?
Thanks in advance.

The output of lspci -vvnn would also be worth having.

So it turns out in the daily build 20081017, the tilt wheel works, but... the directions are reversed :D
So when I move it to the left, it actually scrolls to the right and when I do it to the right, it scrolls to the left, which is kind of annoying :P hope you can fix this for the release!! I attached the file you asked for. Thanks for taking the time to look at this problem.

i spent some time trying to figure this out since the tilt wheel on this particular model was not automatically detected.
the addition to xorg.conf is as follows:

Code:
Section "InputDevice"
   Identifier "Mouse0"
   Driver "evdev"
   Option "CorePointer"
   Option "Device" "/dev/input/by-id/usb-Logitech_USB-PS.2_Optical_Mouse-event-mouse"
   Option "RelHWHEELMapTo" "Buttons 7 6 1"
EndSection

add this extry to the "ServerLayout" section
Code:
InputDevice "Mouse0" "CorePointer"

save and restart Xserver
