Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-system-monitor

In my System > Administration > System Monitor > Processes, a few of my processes show the memory usage as "17179869180.0 GB".

At this very moment 7 processes are showing it.

I'm using Gutsy Beta x64 with all current updates installed.

BTW: This is my first bug submission so if i did anything wrong please let me know.

I can confirm this behaviour, also x86-64. In particular, after enabling all the possible memory columns, all the memory usage seems sane except for "X server memory" and "Memory", which is, as the reporter states, 17179869180.0 GB, and this figure is the same across all processes showing incorrect numbers.

A list of all these processes, in case someone can see a common theme, is:
gtk-window-decorator
multiload-applet-2
empathy
nm-applet
nautilus
gnome-panel
gnome-system-monitor
gnome-terminal
deskbar-applet

I would have to agree. Also, more specifically it looks like an XGL + x64 bug as that is my setup and I see the same bug. That or perhaps it has something to do with the proprietary bundle of joy that is the ATI drivers... The ones that also break suspend and hibernate.

I get it too. My system: Gutsy, fglrx, Xgl, Compiz, AMD64.

I knew Firefox leaks memory, but damn!

Confirming here. I just switched over from 32-bit to 64-bit, used XGL in both cases. This is the sole outstanding bug for 64-bit I've experienced since the change. I'm using an ATI Radeon Mobility X1600 (128MB) with 1GB of RAM.

To ease things, I see the number o GB you reported on 10 processes, 3 others print the same number + 0.1 GB and the rest is normal.

Confirmed.

I use Xgl on an Acer Aspire 5100-5023 laptop:

AMD Turion64 x2 TL-56 (1.6GHz)
ATI Radeon Xpress 1100 (256MB shared memory)
2GB DRR2 RAM
etc.

Well, I can confirm the same behavior on x86_64 with hardy as well.

Originally put up as a question on Ubuntu forums (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=4892471), I was directed here.

Though I dont mean to be critical, but the overall situation about this bug looks strange. On Gnome, its marked as RESOLVED, and still we are facing it in latest gnome build in hardy. There it says in Resolution tag as NOTGNOME, which I interpret as gnome team deciding that its not a gnome bug.

anybody knows where to track it further ?

that's an xgl server bug, that's why the GNOME bug upstream and the launchpad GNOME task are closed

xserver-xgl has been deprecated upstream, and removed from Intrepid. Closing the bug as won't fix.
