Bug Description

Binary package hint: xscreensaver

Because:

- the cost of the energy will increase in the coming years (what ever the primary source is)

- a laptop needs to spare its battery

I think that Ubuntu should set the blank screen as default screensaver for all its flavour (Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Xubuntu, Ubuntu netbook edition, ...).

Thank you for reporting this issue. This is more of a change of default than it is a bug, so I am marking it as a wishlist request.

Changed in xscreensaver (Ubuntu):
importance: Undecided → Wishlist
status: New → Confirmed

I think this bug should be fixed before the next LTS release of Ubuntu.

Basically the large number of users with blank screen by default would save a lot of energy.

Each step can make the world better :)

This should be discussed on the mailing list, to be honest. It is not really a bug, bug a change to the defaults set by the developers. It really does not affect the use of the system, and the user has the choice to set the screensaver to use a blank screen if desired. In the meantime, the wishes of a single user do not usually dictate the default settings.

To discuss this issue, feel free to bring it up on the Xubuntu developers user list at https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/xubuntu-devel .

Xubuntu Community decided they like a non-blank screensaver, and it will not be blank for Xubuntu for Oneiric Ocelot (Xubuntu 11.10). Thank you for your suggestion.
