Bug Description
xscreensaver-
A command to grab a single frame of video from the webcam would be:
ffmpeg -i /dev/video0 -ss 00:00:01 -vframes 1 -f png <filename>
ffmpeg is a relatively common program to have, and so including it as an option for xscreensaver-

@decker-christian It's more of a feature request than a bug.. should I tag it as such?
ffmpeg with the command I've given usually has much better results than any of the programs xscreensaver-

James, if you can please report this (feature request) to the upstream,
which may bring more possibility that your request would be included into
xscreensaver code.
