Subject: xsane: Confusing error message when saving files
Package: xsane
Version: 0.97-3ubuntu2
Severity: normal

My Dad was scanning some documents and was very confused by the error
message that xsane gives when he tried to save a file name containing the
forward slash character, '/'. The error message is:

Could not create secure file (may be a link does exist): %(filename)s

A replacement error message needs to make two things clear to the
user:

 1. That '/' is a directory separator and can not appear in a file name
 2. That the relative path that he entered refers to a directory that
    does not exist

We are closing this bug report as it concerns Breezy which is no longer supported. However, please reopen it if it is still an issue with a supported version of Ubuntu and feel free to submit bug reports in the future.

This is still present in gutsy.

Please don't close bugs like this without taking the time to see if they are still reproducable! This is *very* annoying and makes me much less inclined to bother reporting bugs in the future. See <http://www.jwz.org/doc/cadt.html> for more information.

error while saving could not create secure file.
xsane tells me this error when I am scanning a document.
I do not try to name this document with backslashes or other signs, just a name .

someone tries to close this bug, but it is a new bug. happens only after latest upgrade.
thanks
