Bug Description

Binary package hint: xsane

The package I am using is called XSane.

1) Ubuntu Description: 8.04.1 Release: 8.04

2) XSane is version 0.995-1ubuntu1

3) In GIMP 2.4.5 I tried to scan an image from File>Acquire>XSane>gt68xx.libusb:001:004.

4) An error message appeared stating "Failed to open device 'gt68xx.libusb:001:004': Invalid argument."

My username is part of the Scanner group and the sane-utils package is installed.

No matter how many times I try to scan the same error message appears.

UNSUPPORTED: I ran "sudo xsane" from Terminal, bypassing the warning, and received this error message: "Couldn't open firmware file ('/usr/share/sane/gt68xx/OSLO3071b2.usb'): No such file or directory". It's true, the directory is totally empty. I don't know if this means anything, but thought to add it anyway.

I have this same problem in 9.10 with both a CanoScan LIDE 70 (not supported) and a Nikon LS-50 (supported).
Its not the GIMP plugin as this can be replicated with the scanimage command line tool.

Not sure if its related or not... but I also have a USB webcam (MS LifeCam Cinema) which seems to be recognized by SANE (as v4l). I doubt that it should be recognized by SANE, but maybe there are other SANE uses? I'll try disconnecting the webcam, retrying the LS-50 (since LIDE 70 is unsupported), and will report back findings.

As per https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases your release is EOL.

If you have an issue in a supported release (ex. 16.04) please file a new report, and feel free to subscribe me to it.
