Bug Description

I have HP ScanJet G2410. After I upgrade to ubuntu 13.10(from 13.04). Fail to deduct the scanner

jj@jjux64:~$ lsusb | grep Scan
Bus 002 Device 009: ID 03f0:0a01 Hewlett-Packard ScanJet 2400c

jj@jjux64:~$ sane-find-scanner | grep 03f0 | grep 0a01
could not open USB device 0x03f0/0x0a01 at 002:009: Access denied (insufficient permissions)

but works 'sane-fine-scanner' works in sudo. But even through click preview is crashing.
After adding the scanner group to the user, xsane can deduct the device but crashing while scanning.

jj@jjux64:~$ sudo usermod -aG scanner jj

jj@jjux64:~$ sane-find-scanner | grep 03f0 | grep 0a01
found USB scanner (vendor=0x03f0 [Hewlett-Packard], product=0x0a01 [hp scanjet scanner]) at libusb:002:009

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1249074/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.

What works for me is to install libsane-common and libsane (debian package)
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/raring/amd64/libsane-common/1.0.23-0ubuntu1
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/raring/amd64/libsane/1.0.23-0ubuntu1

My scanner is now working again in Ubuntu 14.04

I have this same problem.
Based on FransSchreuder solution, I found a temporary workaround:

I extracted the file:
libsane-genesys.so.1.0.23

To directory:
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/sane/libsane-genesys.so.1.0.23

From package:
libsane_1.0.23-0ubuntu1_amd64.deb

This avoid problems with package dependences.
And my scanner is now working again in Ubuntu 14.04

Today, a new update "libsane_1.0.23-0ubuntu3.1" fixed the problem for me.
