Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-driver-ati

When using the LiveCD or doing an installation for that matter my Acer 1016W 20" widescreen TFT is not detected, and I get 1280x1024 streched.

I would be quite nice to have my native resolution 1680x1050 automatically detected.

Thanks for your bug report. Could you please add the output of 'sudo xresprobe ati' (where ati is the video driver you use) as an attachment to your bug report? Thanks in advance.

It doesn't list my TFT native resolution of 1680x1050

your monitor could give bogus information about itself.

Try running without xorg.conf, ie. move it aside and start X.

Probably the reason that 1680x1050 isn't listed, is that xresprobe's ddcprobe.sh script always drops the highest resolution returned by ddcprobe. For some monitors (esp. true crts), the higher resolutions can be problematic, so it makes sense that the highest one would be dropped, even if that's sort of a crude solution for cases like these.

The reason it's getting detected as crt instead of lcd is because ddcprobe.sh determines this by grepping for "^input: .*digital" from the ddcprobe output. Looking at the raw ddcprobe output, it doesn't seem there's any alternate way of detecting it's an lcd. Fortunately, I don't think there's much functional difference in how Ubuntu configures X for lcds from crts, so this error is probably innocuous.

For gutsy, though, you should be able to fix this up post-install by using the Screens and Graphics tool. This bug should be left open though, so we can fix things better in Hardy.
